Though we hope that accidents and injuries don’t occur at work, there is always a chance that something will happen despite our best efforts. It is beneficial to be trained in first aid and CPR so you can ensure employee safety even in case of an emergency. Additionally, first aid/CPR training is required for OSHA compliance in some industries. Here’s what you need to know to start your first aid and CPR training:
Who Should Take First Aid/CPR Training?
First aid and CPR training can be helpful to anyone in your company. There can never be too many individuals trained in safety measures. However, OSHA only requires you to have one person on-site trained in first aid and CPR if your worksite isn’t reasonably close to an infirmary, clinic, or hospital. Reasonably close is defined by OSHA as being within 3-4 minutes of emergency care. If your workplace isn’t close enough to emergency care, you need to make sure at least one first aid certified individual is in your workplace at all times.
What is in a First Aid/CPR Course?
First aid and CPR training courses are designed to prepare individuals to deal with emergency situations effectively. These training courses will involve a lot of hands-on practice and situational preparation. Depending on where you get your certification from, the program will likely be a different length with slightly different content. For example, Helpside offers three separate courses to certify individuals for CPR, AED, and first aid that can be either 2 or 4 hours long.
Benefits of Taking a First Aid and CPR Course.
There are many benefits to getting first aid/CPR certified. First, your employees will be safer and better cared for in case of emergency. Employees that feel safe in their workplace will be more productive and happier at work. Second, having certified workers on-site keep you in compliance with OSHA and out of sticky liability challenges. Finally, the ability to receive CPR and first aid training can be a huge benefit for employees outside of work as well.
